| We all know how garbage landfills look like and that there's always a problem concerning the future destination of the garbage from these landfills. Scientist have developed a method of degradating landfill waste by using anerobic bacteria (bacteria that don't need oxygen to live). This way the landfill wouldn't produce any odors! Can you imagine garbage trucks that actually smell nice?
How do the bacteria work? You water the landfill with industrial waste water containing the bacteria. The bacteria convert the garbage into simple organic acids which then can be converted (by another type of bacteria) into methane gas, which can be used to produce power. These type of bioreactors could convert up to 70 percent of the landfill waste. Home garbage could be transported in a new special type of a garbage truck which would let the proces to start immediatly after picking up the garbage from your home! How long before this technology will be put in use? No one knows, and the garbage areas are getting bigger and bigeer...and bigger. |
