| The speedily growing economic pressure and the desire to create a happy stable family have made Russian women turn to the West for better prospects. The present Russian trend is to marry foreign men. The number of marriage agencies promoting cross-cultural marriages soars each year. Most Russian cannot even dream of being housewives. The frequently altering economic situation has forced ladies to look for jobs to provide for their families. Rare are cases when Russian males are able to earn enough, thus that their wives could stay at home. Russian girls find it very hard to make a career and are lower-paid than their male counterparts. Moreover, Russian males commonly spend time with friends, chase after other females, drink and do not help about the house. There is also a demographic disproportion between males nad females. Girls outnumber men by about 12 percent in the age group of 30 and above. Thus, Russian girls have fewer opportunities of finding a suitable partner in their own country. Ladies who lack confidence, put up with the unaccepted behavior of their husbands, others petition for divorce. A considerable number of Russian ladies think that western males make better life partners, as they are more liberated, family-oriented in comparison to Russian males, and will help with the domestic chores. Thus, desperate Russian ladies leave the fatherland in search of stable, financially secure life abroad. In their quest for a stable and financially secure life, Russian females are even open to marriage to mature foreign men. As for foreign males, the rapidly increasing divorce rate and a significant decline in family values have made many foreign men turn to Russian brides for emotional comfort. |
